Schoolmates and friends filled the TL Methodist Church to overflowing Dec 2 as Rev. Larry Larsen conducted final rites. Dean Fett sang "I'll Walk With God" with Hazel Olson accompanying him at piano. Six Sophomores: Alton (Bub) Thompson, Darrel Simon, Ronnie Pederson, Larry Long, Ronnie Long of TL and Bernard Tompkins of Custer, and two junior boys, David Kraft and Willard Guffey, served as casketbearers. Honarary pallbearers were his classmates: Curtis Card, Rod Card, Robert Daczewitz, Terry Friez, James Gunderson, Duane Kellogg, Lyle Maciejewski, Merlyn Pahl, Dwight Schweitzer, Franklin Schweitzer, Michael Voller, Robert VanderMark, Louis Aberle, and Charles Aberle. Kesling FH was in charge of arrangements. Terry died Friday night, Nov 29, in a hunting accident. According to County Coroner JD Kesling Terry and Willard Guffey had attended a 4-H meeting at the Madsen schoolhouse, left there about 9 pm and were hunting jackrabbits on their way home. Spotting a rabbit, Willard shot at it with a rifle and missed. Terry shot at it with a shotgun and hit it. He was putting the gun back, and preparing to alight from the car to get the rabbit, when the gun discharged and hit him in the left side of the face. The mishap occurred about 10 pm along Highway 63 about 2 miles south of Highway 8 junction. Willard, who was the driver, brought the car and Terry back to town, and Sheriff Frank Ross took Terry to the Mobridge Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Coroner Kesling said death had been instantaneous. Terry Lee Hodgman was born Feb 16, 1948, at Mobridge, the son of Harry and Mabel Hodgman. He spent all of his life in TL. He was a sophomore at TL High, and was a member of the football and basketball teams. He was also active in 4-H club work. He is survived by his parents; a sister: Mrs. James (Harriet) Silbernagel of Minneapolis, MN; a brother: Allen age six years; paternal grandmother: Mrs. William Hodgman of Salem, OR; maternal grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Grant Simon of White Owl; a nephew and a niece, other relatives, and a host of friends.
