He was born August 12, 1926, at Mapleton, Iowa, to George "Shorty" and Bertha Mae (Lewis) Newkirk Allen. On April 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ruby Burgess at Onawa, Iowa. He was a lifelong... Read More	Thaddeus Allen August 12, 1926 ~ November 9, 1985 Thaddeus Allen, 59, Dunlap, Iowa, passed away November 9, 1985, at his residence of an apparent heart attack. He was born August 12, 1926, at Mapleton, Iowa, to George "Shorty" and Bertha Mae (Lewis) Newkirk Allen. On April 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ruby Burgess at Onawa, Iowa. They made their home at Dunlap for the last 22 years. He was a track foreman with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 37 years, retiring in January 1984 because of poor health. He was a lifelong resident of Western Iowa and during World War II; he served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Dunlap American Legion Post No. 224 at Dunlap and was past president of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees No. 1347. Survivors include his wife, Ruby; one son, Gordon L. of Dunlap; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Gail) Hill of Eatontown, N.J.; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Beedle and Mrs. Everett (Amy) Clayton, both of Onawa; two brothers, Gerald of Council Bluffs and William of Onawa; three half sisters, Mrs. Pearl Cripe of Sibley; Mrs. Muriel Kniefle of Sioux City; and Mrs. Gladys Miller of Onawa; one half brother, John Newkirk of Kensington, Calif., four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Allen; two half brothers, Louis and Charles Newkirk; and four grandchildren. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 1985, at the Pearson Funeral Chapel at Onawa with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, the organist, played the selections, "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset". Bearers were Ivan McMains, John Heller, Bernard Hanson, Ed Giulia, Leo Heller and Jeff Campbell. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City, Iowa, with Military Services by Dunlap American Legion Post No. 224, Tom Gilbreath, Commander. [Source: Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa, Iowa]
