He moved to Burchinal, IA 8 miles SE of Clear Lake. He died 6 years later from prostate and kidney problems. Dan Spilman, Jr. took over the farm. After Dan's death, Thea moved to a house across the street from her eldest daughter Minnie Hugh. In 1927 she fell and broke a shoulder, never fully recovering. Thea died May 2, 1927. Dan and Thea's son Thomas was color blind. That is supposed to be a trait that comes from the mother's side (Thea). OBITUARY FOR THEA SPILMAN from the Mason City Globe-Gazette: Spilman Rites Thursday; Died Monday Morning Following Long Illness CLEAR LAKE, May 3 – The funeral services for Mrs. Dan Spilman, Sr., who died at her daughter's, Mrs. G. S. Hugh's home, here, will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran church Thursday at 2:30 o'clock p.m. A short service at the house will be held at 2 o'clock p. m. Burial will be here. Mrs. Spilman fell three weeks ago on a slippery sidewalk, this coupled with her advanced age of 84 years, and general failing health caused her death. She had lived in the vicinity of Clear Lake for 56 years. Thea Anderson was born in Hollengdahl, Norway, Nov. 9, 1852, and came to America when 12 years old, residing in Chicago until 1871 when she came to Clear Lake and married Daniel Spilman. They lived on a farm south of town 35 years and in Burchinal for five years where her husband died 12 years ago Since that time she has resided in Clear Lake. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Chester Johnson [Kate/Katie] of Faith, S.D.; Mrs. Clare Holmes [Lillie/Lillian] of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. G. S. Hugh [Minnie], Mrs. E. M. Eastman [Anna/Annie], Harry, Thomas, Daniel and Alex Spilman, all of Clear Lake. Mrs. B. A. Hetland, Mrs. Ole Markin and Ole Oleson are sisters and brother of Mrs. Spilman.
