She was born June 2, 1917 on a farm near Highland Center to John H. and Gertrude Lessen Clausen. She married Homer Hite on January 26, 1941 at the First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. She was born June 2, 1917 on a farm near Highland Center to John H. and Gertrude Lessen Clausen. She married Homer Hite on January 26, 1941 at the First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death September 30, 1984. She married Paul"Puds"Johnson at Cape Coral, FL on April 21, 1991. He preceded her in death January 30, 2008. A graduate of Hedrick High School and of the Iowa Success School in Ottumwa, she had worked at the Wapello County Courthouse for 10 years. Thelma retired in 1987 from John Deere Ottumwa Works after 31 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa having been baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hedrick. She was an excellent housekeeper and cook and a huge Chicago Cub baseball fan. Surviving is her sister, Pauline Kirkland of Ottumwa; a step-son, Paul(Nancy)Johnson Jr. of Colleyville, TX, three step-daughters, Kathy(Jon)Luedthe of Ft. Myers, FL, Deanna Arista of Lincoln, MA, Carolyn Johnson of Ottumwa; seven step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandson; an aunt, Mildred Hoffert of Lincoln, IL; two nephews, Gene(Delores)Hite and Chet Sedore both of Ottumwa; a niece, Irene(Jim)Mullenix of Marion. She was preceded in death by an infant son, John Michael Hite. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Kister officiating. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment in McCormick Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be open at 1 pm Friday at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church or Tenco Foundation.
