She was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Colo to John and Mary Ann (Cooper) Dawson. She was a Colo High School graduate and married Edgar Hemping on Dec. 14, 1934, in Colo. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church of Colo, BF & T Club, Dalton Aide and the Rebecca Circle. She was a lifelong resident of Story County and enjoyed cooking, being home and with family, attending church and gardening. Survivors include a son, John Hemping of Colo; two grandchildren, Amy Hemping of Colo and Matt Hemping of Ankeny; and two sisters, Donna Sayers and Dorothy Smith, both of Nevada. Her parents; her husband in 1980 and a sister, Doris Staker, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, at the United Methodist Church of Colo with Pastor Park officiating. Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada handled arrangements.
