Born on November 23, 1922, Thelma was the daughter of the late Louis Mason and Carrie Myrtle Stokes Edwards. As a native of Pitt County, she grew up on their family farm in the Eastern Pines community and was valedictorian of her Chicod High School graduating class. Thelma lived most of her adult life in Greenville, NC where she was employed with Brody’s clothing store for more than 30 years. For the last 18 years of that employment, she was the Manager of the Pitt Plaza Mall Brody’s store. She was an active and longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville where she held various leadership positions including serving on the Board of Deacons, Church Council, President of the Women of the Church, Chair of the Pictorial Directory Committee and Chair of her church circle. In 1987, Thelma was honored with an Honorary Life Membership by the Women of the Presbyterian Church in appreciation for her dedication and work. Mrs. Flye also volunteered in other organizations including serving as PTA President at Third Street School. In addition, she enjoyed attending ECU football games, quilting, cooking, traveling, painting and playing bridge, but most of all, she cherished time with her family who were the loves of her life. She will be greatly missed by her family, but we are thankful for treasured memories of times with her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Flye was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Flye and her three sisters: Annie Ruth Evans, Lillian Earl Bradshaw and Lois Mason Fleming. Thelma is survived by her three daughters: Carrie Dawn Flye of Greenville, Kay Warren (Rudy) of Wrightsville Beach, and Ginger Gabele (Peter) of Holly Springs; and grandsons Ward Warren (Katie) of Charlotte and Paul Warren (Kathleen) of Raleigh.
