Her paternal grandparents lived nearby, too: Charles H. and Mary Hedden, in Mitchell, Davison County, where her father was born.. They moved to Iowa and her parents ran a laundry in Ames where Thelma worked in 1930. She was first married to William G. May in Ames. By 1940, her father had married Francis Morris and ran a laundry in Oskaloosa, IA, where the couple died tragically in 1968, termed apparent murder-suicide. The police were first notified when they received a call from Mrs. Thelma May of Ames. Mrs. May called police here and asked that a squad car check the Hedden residence. She said her father had called her and said she should come to Oskaloosa because there had been an accident. William G. May died on 31 Oct. 1974 in Ames. Thelma secondly married to Raymond Milton Duff, who died in Ames on 22 Aug. 1990. Thelma E. Carr, 96 of Riverside Manor in Ames, died at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Per Mrs. Carr's wishes her body was cremated. Shares a stone with her third husband Galen J. Carr.
