Description	:	Thelma Elizabeth DeRoe was born on February 13, 1913 on the family farm in the Pella community, rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. She, being the oldest child, assisted with the other children and worked along side her father assisting in the farming operation and was familiar with field work using horse drawn equipment. She received elementary education at Lancaster County Public Schools, District 20, "Wooden Shoe" located at 176th street and Firth road in rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. Read More	Thelma Elizabeth DeRoe was born on February 13, 1913 on the family farm in the Pella community, rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. She, being the oldest child, assisted with the other children and worked along side her father assisting in the farming operation and was familiar with field work using horse drawn equipment. She received elementary education at Lancaster County Public Schools, District 20, "Wooden Shoe" located at 176th street and Firth road in rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. The DeRoe family lived two miles from the country school they attended. She and her sisters traveled by horse and buggy to the home of their grandparents, GJH and Diena Fischer and walked the remaining short distance to Wooden Shoe school. In winter months, when the weather was bad, she and here sisters spent many nights with her grandparents. She was a type two diabetic. Thelma and Vernon Arend Nyland were married on February 15, 1944 at the home of the bride in the Pella community, rural Otoe County, Nebraska. They started married life on the Nyland family farm. They later owned and operated that farm until Vernon's death and their son Paul continued to operate the farm which remains in the family to this day. She then moved to Adams, Gage County, Nebraska and lived there in retirement. They were lifelong members of the Pella Reformed Church, Pella, Adams, Lancaster County,Nebraska.
