Read More	Thelma Richardson - posted Feb. 21, 2003 Riverside Thelma Richardson passed away in Riverside on February 17, 2003 at the age of 97. She was born to Sam and Gertrude Garton, a founding family of Chelan, in 1906. She grew up riding her pony where they lived on Highland Bench and also met the love of her life there. She married Kenneth Richardson in 1926 and they had their son, Gene in 1927. Her stories of those days brought to life the stern-wheelers on the Columbia, the dance halls over the water in Chelan, and the roaring twenties. After World War II, when her son returned from seven years at sea, the family purchased the Sportsman Tavern in Omak. She spent the rest of her life in the Okanogan, watching her grandchildren, playing her splendid piano locally, and being an inspiration to all that knew her. She loved to dance, tell old stories, and she had an incredible laugh. She loved John Kennedy and John Lennon, and used to say the 1960's started where the 20's left off. Thelma was a lifelong Democrat, who would never let us forget the lives lost to keep that right to vote. Thelma will be remembered for the grace she displayed in tragedy and the love that shone in her smile throughout her life. Those who knew her say they were blessed by her love in a very, very special way. Her parents, her husband, her son Gene Richardson, her daughter-in-law and best friend Irene Richardson preceded her in death, and three great-grandchildren lost at birth. The following grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive her: Denny Richardson, his wife Paulie and their children Abby and Codi Chelan of Ruby, WA. Kelly Parson and her son Chase of Juneau, Alaska, Ron Smith, his wife Monica and their children Wyatt and Patti. A memorial will be held at Chelan Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend, with the time to be announced.
