She was born March 16, 1923, in Vevay, the daughter of Bryant and Addie Mae Browning Lowe. She was a cementer at the U.S. Shoe factory in Vevay from 1950 to 1964. She and her husband owned and operated the East End Market from 1962 to 1968. She became a licensed hairstylist, owning and operating the Swiss Boutique in Vevay from 1968 to 1994. She enjoyed work, her family, reading and cooking. She is survived by her husband, Donald W. Allen, whom she married Feb. 26, 1956; three sons, William "Bill" Hankins of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Marty Hankins and Steve D. Allen, both of Vevay; two brothers, Gayle Lowe of Center Square and Wilbur "Pete" Lowe of Vevay; two sisters, Norma Earl of Madison and Wilma Hamamey of Panma, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Stanley Hankins, whom she married July 5, 1941, and who died Feb. 2, 1954; one daughter, Linda Siefert, Sept. 23, 1986; one son, Mark Wayne Allen, May 21, 1989; one brother, Robert "Bob" Lowe; one sister, Kay Risley; two infant sisters, Janet Lou and Leona Lowe; and one great-granddaughter. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Mount Sterling Baptist Church. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home. Thelma entered this life on March 16, 1923, in Vevay, Indiana, the daughter of Bryant & Addie Mae (Browning) Lowe, both of whom preceded her in death. Thelma was a 1941, graduate of Vevay High School. She was united in marriage on July 5, 1941, in Carrollton, Kentucky, to William Stanley Hankins, & he died on Feb. 2, 1954. Thelma was later united in marriage on Feb. 26, 1956, at the Caledonia Parsonage in Moorefield, Indiana, to Donald W. Allen. Thelma was a cementer for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, from 1950-1964. Thelma & Don owned & operated the East End Market from 1962-1968. In 1966, Thelma enrolled in Beauty School & graduated in 1967, from the House of James Beauty School in Madison. She was a licensed hairstylist & owned & operated the Swiss Boutique in Vevay, from 1968-1994. Thelma always enjoyed her work & raising her family. Thelma was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. Thelma died Friday, May 12, 2006 at 9:45 am at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay. A LOVING FAMILY Mrs. Allen will be missed by her husband: Donald W. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 11:00 am, by Rev. Michael Sawalich at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may call 5:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana.
