Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 8, 2021, at Gilbert Lutheran Church, 135 School Street, Gilbert, Iowa. The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, also at Gilbert Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Thelma was born July 20, 1931, at Blairsburg, Iowa, to Henry and Rena (Tapper) Venner. She graduated from Blairsburg Consolidated School in 1948. Thelma attended Webster City Junior College and then taught country school at Blairsburg #2 and Williams #4. On March 3, 1950, she met Earl Boss, the love of her life, on a blind date. Thelma was united in marriage to Earl exactly one year later on March 3, 1951, at the Vernon Lutheran Church in Dows, Iowa. He passed away on October 22, 2017. He was a very devoted husband and caregiver. Into this union, two daughters were born, Kay and Kathy. Thelma enjoyed spending time with her family and spent numerous hours cooking and baking for her family, friends, and church functions. She also enjoyed numerous fishing trips, day trips and card games with family and friends. Her flower gardens were always beautiful as well. In later years, she enjoyed quilting. Thelma is survived by her daughters, Kay (Neil) Anderson of Ames and Kathy (Don Myers) Petersen of Loveland, Colorado; four grandchildren, Tina (Kerry) Madsen of Knoxville, Iowa, Kevin (Stacy) Anderson of Speedwell, Tennessee, Jared (Dawn) Petersen of Firestone, Colorado, and Brian Petersen of Fort Collins, Colorado; three great grandchildren, Carter and Wyatt Petersen (Jared) and Abigail Anderson (Kevin); sister, Barbara Venner of Ames, Iowa; sister-in-law, Marilyn Venner of Iowa Falls, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; infant brother, William; sister, Eleanor and brother, Richard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family or to Gilbert Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for Thelma's family at www.adamssodertsrum.com
