Thelma Otelia Gran, daughter of Mikel and Margaret (Bergh) Gran, was born Sept. 23, 1914, at Viborg. She received her education at Viborg, Garretson, and Waverly schools. Thelma Otelia Gran, daughter of Mikel and Margaret (Bergh) Gran, was born Sept. 23, 1914, at Viborg. She received her education at Viborg, Garretson, and Waverly schools. She was united in marriage with Anton Nielsen on April 24, 1931, at Brandon. The couple farmed for many years, and in 1965 they moved from Canton to Valley Springs. Mrs. Nielsen worked for many years in the laundry department at McKennan Hospital. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Nielsen returned to Canton in 2001, where she lived until the time of her death. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Valley Springs. She enjoyed sewing and reading. Survivors include her foster daughter-in-law, Marilyn Muns, and her children; nine nieces and nephews, among them Norma Gunderson of Valley Springs; special friends, Lorraine Wilson and Dee Joneson, Valley Springs; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton, on Jan. 4, 1994; her parents; her foster son, Duane Muns; four brothers: Segvold Gran, Merton Gran, Edwin Gran, and an infant brother; and four sisters: Mary Hagen, Edna Menholt, Alma Menholt, and Evangeline Nelson.
