Description	:	Thelma Pitt Gay Bell, 89, of Farmville passed away peacefully Dec. 30, 2009 at Heritage Healthcare in Farmville. A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 1, 2010 at 2p.m. at the Farmville Funeral Home. Internment will follow at Queen Anne Cemetery in Fountain. Visitation will be held from 1:00-1:45 prior to the service. Visitation other times at 3496 East Wilson St. Mrs. Bell was born in Edgecombe County, the daughter of Alex and Sara Pitt, and lived all her adult life in Pitt County. Visitation other times at 3496 East Wilson St. Mrs. Bell was born in Edgecombe County, the daughter of Alex and Sara Pitt, and lived all her adult life in Pitt County. She was preceded in death by her devoted husbands, Joseph Gay in 1968 and Roscoe Bell in 1998, and a brother Aaron Pitt of Wendell. She was a longtime and dedicated member of the Fountain Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies' Sunday school class and was the Ladies' Mission Group leader for many years. She loved people and her loving spirit and comforting prayers will be remembered by many. A homemaker and a loving and caring mother of two daughters, she is survived by Sylvia G. Allen and husband, Willie, of Farmville and Lou G. Shaw and husband, Jessie, of Durham; two sisters Vera Edwards of Macclesfield and Janey Ellen of Jackson; four grandchildren, Lynn and Eddie Jones of Farmville, Beverly Allen of Greenville, Lisa and Paul Gill of Dunwoody, Ga., and Rick Tugwell of Chapel Hill; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
