Gisel, age 86, of Savannah, Georgia, and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Saturday morning, October 25, 2003, at the Memorial Health Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, Novembers, 2003, from theCarson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa, with Rev John "Jay" Keppel, Jr. of the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 P.M. on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Rural Maquoketa, Iowa. Thelma L. Gisel was born on March 29,1917 in Oelriches, South Dakota to Charles Purdy and Lydia (Wilcox) Purdy. She was a 1936 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School. She married Howard Gisel on September 1, 1940 in Washington, Iowa. Mrs. Gisel was a homemaker and had worked on the assembly line at Oak Industries in Crystal Lake, Illinois for ten years, retiring to Maquoketa in 1984. She and her husband had lived in Maquoketa from 1984 until 2001, when they moved to Savannah, Georgia. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa, and the Maquoketa American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, flowers .and plants, reading and was an excellent cook. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by: her husband Howard Gisel of Savannah, GA; a daughter Connie(Mrs. Jack) Odell of Savannah, GA; 2 Aunts- LaVone Jan & - Freda Lenhart, both of Maquoketa, IA; & many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, & 3 sisters- Maxine Ravenscroft, LucilleRowan & her twin- Velma Gerdes. Memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa or to Camp Courageous of Iowa.
