Dooley, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2007, in East Wenatchee at the age of 95 years. She was born to James & Minnie (Gilland) Hellyer on September 27, 1911, at Burlington, KS. After graduating from high school in Blackwell, OK, she moved with her family to Wenatchee in 1931. She then attended and graduated from the Wenatchee Business College. Thelma later met and married Fred Dooley during the WWII era where he served in the U.S. Navy. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for several of the local Labor Unions in the Wenatchee Valley including the Hotel & Restaurant #298, Carpenters Union #2205, Laborers Union #1090 and the Building and Trade Union. Thelma also served on the Wenatchee Central Labor Council and as the Chairman of the Committee of Political Education. She was a long time member of the Eagle's Auxiliary #204. Thelma had a very outgoing personality. She loved going dancing and spending time with her friends. Those who knew her would tell you that she was a woman who knew her mind and was not afraid to express it. Yet she was compassionate and fun loving. During her years at the various Union offices, she was a great secretary and always strived to help the "underdog". She made a wonderful friend and her long-time friendships meant a great deal to her. Thelma loved talking politics and was very active in her younger days in trying to make positive changes to the system. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Dooley; parents, James and Minnie Hellyer; a sister, Mary Evans; and her brother, Daniel Hellyer. She is survived by a brother, James Hellyer of Portland, OR; one niece, Ruth Evans Watne of Santa Ana, CA; great-nieces, Kara (Yves) Watne Sergile of Glendale, CA and Julie (Michael) Watne Hall of Torrance, CA; three great-great-nieces, Genevieve and Sarah Sergile of Glendale, CA and Kelsey Hall of Torrance, CA; and her faithful 4 legged companion, Suzie Q. She is also survived by two very special and endearing friends; her beloved God Son, Bob Sproul and his wife, Penny of Spokane, WA. Her friends and family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff of Highline Care Center in East Wenatchee for their exceptional care and professionalism while caring for Thelma. A Graveside Service will be held at the Wenatchee City Cemetery Mausoleum on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will take place at Jones & Jones Funeral Home on Friday, February 2, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Lilac Blind Foundation in Thelma's name. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones & Jones Funeral Home.
