(Ted) Beck, our district president, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on February 10, 1919. He was baptized at the age of eight years at Norfolk, Nebraska. After graduating from high school in Independence, Missouri, he attended Graceland College from which he was graduated in 1938. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Iowa State College in 1941. In 1942, he was married to Kathryn [Kay] Werges. To them, four children have been born, three boys - Larry - 9, Monty -4, and Byron - 6 weeks. Their daughter, Sidna, will soon be seven. The Becks first moved to Spokane District in 1945. After a brief absence, they returned in 1947 and have been with us since. Ted is employed by the Brown Trailer Co., as chief planner. He was ordained a priest in 1944, and an elder in 1949. In October 1952, he was elected as our district president and has served in that capacity faithfully and well ever since. In answer to a question regarding past and future growth of our district, he states: "The Spokane District has steadily grown in spiritual stature since the advent of the reunion. It is hoped the new grounds will do the same again for the group as a whole. By developing the new grounds, it is expected we would be able to work as well as play, study, and worship together, which completes the requirements as a Zionic member." ObitsforLife.com -Obituary Theodore A. Beck Theodore Abel Beck, 84, of Overland Park, KS passed away on Friday, December 12, 2003 at the Menorah Medical Center. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel with a separate graveside service on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, IA. The visitation will be held from 9 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning in the chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Alzheimers Association. Theodore was born on February 10, 1919 in Council Bluffs, IA to Theodore and Eva Beck. He was a U.S. veteran of WWII and was a member of the Optimist Club, Iowa State Alumni Association and the Society of Automotive Engineers. His wife, Kathryn M. Beck, precedes him in death. Survivors include three sons, Larry M. Beck, Monte G. Beck and Byron R. Beck; one daughter, Sidna K. Adams; and 12 grandchildren.
