Theodore Kenneth Decker was born August 17, 1930, to Theodore J. and Martha (Lehfeldt) Decker. He grew up in rural Huron, attended rural school in Iowa Township, and graduated from Yale High School in 1948. On June 28, 1950, he married Betty Jean Walter at Bethel Church near Yale. They farmed in rural Huron near Lake Byron. Ted was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron where he had served as a trustee and elder. A life-long resident of Iowa Township, he served on the township board for over 50 years and also served as a member of the Yale Coop board of directors for 24 years. Ted loved farming and shared his knowledge as a 4-H leader for over twenty years. He regularly showed his antique tractors as a member of the Antique Power Association. Well-known for his pickles, Ted enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and baking. Like most farmers, Ted enjoyed the outdoors and such activities as fishing, and camping. He hunted deer for 56 years at the Nicholas family farms in the Black Hills. Ted and Betty also enjoyed playing cards, attending basketball games and craft shows, and searching for great bargains at flea markets and rummage sales. Above all, Ted's true loves were his wife and family and his farm. What pride he took in them all. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Betty, of Huron; six children, Kandis (Keith) Henderson, of Carroll, Iowa, Ken (Melodie) Decker, of Yale, Keith (Corey) Decker, of Huron, Kathleen Roelofsen (Stan Kijowski), of Kansas City, Missouri, Koreen (Dale) Bartel, of Burden, Kansas, and Kim (Tom) Leif, of Elk Point; 12 grandchildren, Kirk Henderson, Kent Henderson, Brittni Decker, Brooke Decker, Thomas Roelofsen, Andrew Roelofsen, Rebecca Roelofsen, Leslie (J.C.) Garner, Lacie Bartel, Christopher Leif, Kelsey Leif and Tyler Leif; and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Easton Garner. His parents and an infant grandson preceded him in death.
