Read More	Cascade Pioneer, January 6, 1927, page 4, columns 1 – 2 GOOD CITIZEN CALLED Theodore Maire Died December 30th and Buried on Birthday Theodore Maire, whose death occurred December 30th, 1926, at his home in Cascade, after an illness of about one year, although his last seriousness sickness was of several weeks, removed from life's activities a good citizen who as famer and businessman was well and favorable know throughout this locality since his early boyhood. Mr. Maire was a son of the late Victor and Magdalena Maire, and was born in East Dubuque, Ill., January 1st, 1857. He came to Cascade township with his parents in 1858. The family removed to Washington township, Jones county, Iowa, in 1866, where deceased grew to manhood upon the farm. In 1885 Theodore Maire came to Cascade and engaged in the general store business with the late Charles Miller. In 1886 he went into partnership with Matt Bisenius in the mercantile business and sold his interest in the firm to the late A. F. Sauser in 1889. He was for a time also associated with the late Hugh Fagan in the livery business in Cascade, after which he returned to farming and continued until 1908 when he again came to Cascade. From 1922 to 1925 he was manager of the Cascade Shipping Association. Mr. Maire was married May 19th, 1903, to Miss Annie McNally, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert McNally, of Washington township, at St. Martin's church in Cascade by the Rev. Lawrence Roche. She survives his with two children, a daughter, Miss Roberta, and a son, Eugene. He is also survived by his brothers, John and Victor, of this city, and is preceded by his parents and a sister, all of whom died many years ago. Mr. Maire was a man of sound judgement and intelligence on the practical affairs of lie, and his advice was frequently sought by his fellowmen. He was a consistent Catholic and passed to his reward fortified by the sacraments of his religious faith. The funeral took place during High Mass at St. Martin's church on New Years day, which was his 69th birthday. Very Rev. Dean Rooney officiating in the office for the dead. The pallbearers were Eugene Schekel, Ed. Parker, William Drummond, Ed. Connolly, A. J. Murray, W. P. Knepper, Thomas McGovern and Peter Neyans. Members of St. Martin's branch of the R. C. M. P. Society, of which deceased was a member, acted as honorary pallbearers. Those from abroad who attended the funeral were Mrs. Hillar Sauser, of Walthill, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Freitgen and Louis Freitgen, of Oelwein, Ia., J. M. Hayes and daughters Misses Inez and Herberta Hayes, of Oelwein, Iowa.
