PAUL — Theodore R. “Ted” Bader, 78, of rural St. Paul, was welcomed into eternal life on Saturday, June 25, 2016. The seventh child of ten born to Henry and Helen Bruns Bader, Theodore Ronald “Ted” Bader was born Aug. 16, 1937, at the family farm north of St. Libory. Ted became a child of God through the waters of holy baptism on Sept. 19, 1937, at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. On April 8, 1951, he affirmed that faith when he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran. His confirmation verse was Matt. 6:33 “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” A divine funeral service where the Word of God of which Ted believed will be proclaimed at Zion Lutheran Church, Worms, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. Craig Niemeier will officiate. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Ted attended Zion Lutheran School in Worms from first to eighth grade. He then attended Concordia College in Milwaukee, Wis. After the six years at Concordia, he attended one year at Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Ind. He then discontinued his college education and held various jobs. He worked for his uncle, Carl Bader; worked in a grocery store; for Del Monte in the pea fields and cannery; on the Sherman Dam canal; helped his father on the farm; and helped his brother, Henry, build a house. In 1960 he was asked to teach school at Zion Lutheran, Worms. He taught grades 3-4-5 with 30 students. In 1961, he enrolled at Nebraska State Teachers College at Wayne. Upon graduation in May of 1963, Ted taught 6th grade at Gretna Public School. On June 12, 1965, Ted was united in marriage with Marilyn Ann Holt at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dodge City, Kan. Ted took a year leave of absence from teaching at Gretna to work on his master’s degree. At this time he and Marilyn lived at Bloomfield where Marilyn was teaching at Trinity Lutheran School. While in Bloomfield, he taught 6th grade in the public school during second semester. In 1966, the Baders returned to Gretna where Ted continued teaching 6th grade until 1972 when the Baders moved to the St. Libory area to go into farming partnership with Ted’s brother, Bill. This partnership continued until 1997. Ted and Marilyn were blessed with two sons, Timothy and Philip. In 1998, Philip went into partnership with his dad. This partnership has continued unto the present. Ted loved to work the land. Farming and gardening were passions of his life. He always had a big garden and enjoyed sharing his produce with family and friends. He was handy at building and repairing things. When an addition was added on to the Bader home, Ted was helped by Philip in doing it. Ted’s faith was very important to him. He served his Lord by serving in many positions at church: elder, trustee, financial secretary and Bible class leader. Besides farming and gardening, he enjoyed bowling and fishing. His greatest joys were his grandchildren and attending their activities. He took great delight in watching Justus, Connor, and Levi in their sport activities. Holding his memory forever in their hearts are his wife, Marilyn; sons, Tim Bader of Axtell, and Philip (Kim) of St. Paul; grandchildren, Tara (Elias) Abdallah and Melody Gough of Kearney, Deanna (Franco) Ribeiro of Elkhorn and Justus, Connor, and Levi Bader of St. Paul; great-grandchildren, Alex, Lucas, Evelyn Ribeiro and Dean Gough: brothers, Henry Bader of LeMars, Iowa, and Bill (Andrea) Bader of St. Libory; sisters, Joan Vetter of Mazomanie, Wis., Betty Rasch of Denton, Texas, and Carol (Tom) Stephan of Falls River, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Wil Tewes of Lincoln, William Holt and Robert Holt of Dodge City, Kan.; and a sister-in-law, Janice Wurtz of Pleasanton, Kan. Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Helen Bader; sisters, June Tewes and Lois Watt; brothers, Harry Bader and David Bader; brothers-in-law, Walter Rasch and Eugene Vetter; and his in-laws, William and Rosa Holt.
