MAN DROWNS ICY WATERS Theodore Small was drowned at Camp Eight in the mill pond of the Mid Columbia Lumber Company ten miles up Wind River from Carson, Washington Tuesday noon. Small was working with the logs on the pond and went to vault from one log to another placing his pike pole on the bottom. He made the jump, but the pole sank in the muddy bottom and failed to tip with the swing of his body. This threw him off his balance and he fell striking his feet on a log and dropped into the water and sank immediately. His co-workers rushed to his assistance and in a minute or two had him ashore and gave artificial respiration and first aid without effect, the man dying immediately. Mr. Small had been an employee of the Lumber Company for about two years and was living at the mill camp with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.B. Small, whom he was supporting. He was about 25 years of age and was a very popular and trusted workman. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home of the deceased's parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.B. Small and interment was made in the Odd Fellows Cemetary at Carson, Washington. Published in the Skamania County Pioneer Newspaper, in Stevenson, WA on December 14, 1928.
