Cemetery, Gregory, South Dakota, Gregory County. Rev. W. W. Winkler officiated at the ceremonies. Theodore Walter was born in Cook County, Illinois, on 18 December* and departed this life on 28 May 1947 at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 9 days. His parents were Henry Walter and Louise (Duensing) Walter. While still a boy, he moved with his parents to the vicinity of Fremont, Nebraska, where he grew to manhood. Later he came to South Dakota, living in Gregory County for 28 years, until the time of his death. In 1919 [actually 21 Jul 1918] he was united in marriage to Eva Wolf, who preceded him in death in 1927 [sic]. Left to mourn his passing are two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Esther) Seymour, Gregory, and Mrs. Chris (Viola) Shedeed, Colome, South Dakota, son Henry Walter of New Haven, Indiana, two brothers, Emil Walter of Wakefield, Nebraska and Edward Walter of Humphrey, Nebraska, and seven grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Relatives from Wakefield, Nebraska, attending the funeral were Mr. Roy and Mrs. (Viola) Holm,. Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Bartels, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Johnson, Mrs. Naoma Echtenkamp and daughter Geraldine, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bartels, Mrs. Carl Walter, Clair Walter, Richard Walter and Oscar Becker. Theodore Walter passed away Wednesday, 28 May 1947, at 2 o'clock a.m. at the Mother of Grace Hospital following a stroke of paralysis on Tuesday afternoon at the farm home of his daughter Mrs. Roy (Esther) Seymour, where he had been making his home. [*There is some confusion about his date of birth. According to the baptismal records of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Richton Park, Illinois, he was born 15 Dec 1865 and baptized on 1 Jan 1866.]
