Mrs. Theresa Zimmermann died at the home of her son, George Zimmermann in Stanton Township on Friday morning. She had been in poor health for the past year, but had not been confinded to her bed until a day or two ago. Her demise was due to the complications attendant on old age and failing health. Mrs. Zimmermann was born in Wurtembourg, Germany, in 1828, and came to the United States when a girl. She was united in marriage with Rev. Jacob Zimmermann at Baltimore in 1847. They came to this county in 1869 when her husband was sent west by the United Evangelical association to preach the gospel. His first charge was at Melbourne in this county. Her husband died in 1870. She was the mother of six sons, four of whom survive, Noah, George, Frank and William, all residents here. The sons who preceded her to the grave are Jacob and Charles. The deceased was a member of the Evangelical church. She was well known and highly respected, being one of the earliest settlers in the county. The funeral was held yesterday and a large concourse of people attended. The service, conducted by Rev. H. Kleinsorge, an old time friend of the family, was held at the same place and witnessed by many of the old settlers, as those of the father thirty-two years ago. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the Melbourne cemetery. ~Transcriber's notes: Mrs. Zimmerman's maiden name was Theresa Elizabeth Merriman Sources differ concerning the Zimmerman's arrival in Plymouth county, varying from 1866 as the earliest to July 1868 as the latest. The most likely is July 1868, as Rev. J. J. Zimmerman died March 9, 1869, "less than a year" after their arrival.
