Cuming County Democrat, Thursday, January 27, 1938: “Mrs. Theresa Knobbe died at her home in the eastern part of our city on Friday morning, January 21, 1938, at 8:10 a.m. , following a stroke she suffered on Saturday, six days before her death. Theresa Geiling was born to Henry and Mary Geiling on November 28, 1865, at St. Libory, Illinois. She received her education at Fayetteville, Illinois, coming to Nebraska at the age of 15 years. On October 20, 1885, she was united in marriage to Clemens Knobbe at St. Boniface church, Monterey, Rev. John Jungels performing the ceremony. They established their home on a farm near Monterey, where they lived until 1920, when they retired from farm life and established their residence in West Point at 305 So. Monitor street. Eight children were born to this union; one, a son, Anthony, dying in 1918 at the age of fourteen. Mrs. Knobbe was a loving wife and mother and with her husband for many years enjoyed the choicest of God’s blessings. In 1935 they celebrated together the golden anniversary of their marriage and six years prior to that she journeyed with her husband to Germany, where they visited with relatives. Mr. Knobbe passed away on November 13, 1936. She was a loyal and faithful member of the Catholic Church and devoutly practiced the duties of her religion. As a young girl she enrolled in the Sodality at St. Boniface church and retained this membership during her entire life. Surviving are her children, Bernard, Henry, Joe, Elizabeth and August of this vicinity, Frank of Omaha, and Cecilia (Mrs. George Eckert) St. Louis, Missouri; twenty –two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Anna Maher, St. Louis, Mo. Funeral services were held at St. Boniface Church, Monterey, on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Clement Stratman, assisted by Father Leo Mainzer of St. Helena, Nebr. Officiating. Burial was made in St. Boniface cemetery. Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Korte, Orleans, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. John Korte, Mr. and Mrs. Bendix Schmidt, Howells; Mrs. Bernard Klug, daughter, Rose, and son, Fred and Rev. Fr. L. Mainzer, of St. Helena.”
