Justice Arthur was 65 years old and previously lived at Logan, Iowa, before moving to Des Moines in September, 1929, when he became a justice of the supreme court. Read More	JUSTICE ARTHUR DIES THIS MORNING HEART ATTACK TAKES SUPREME COURT JUSTICE Member of Iowa Supreme Bench Succumbs Early This Morning to Short Illness Des Moines, Iowa, September 15 - - Justice Thomas Arthur of the Iowa supreme court, died this morning at the Iowa Methodist hospital after being taken there yesterday afternoon from his office, as a result of a heart attack. Justice Arthur was 65 years old and previously lived at Logan, Iowa, before moving to Des Moines in September, 1929, when he became a justice of the supreme court. He officiated as chief justice last year. Chief Justice Last Year Judge Arthur went on the district bench of the fifteenth district in 1911 and served until September 15, 1920, when he was named to the supreme court to succeed the late Frank R. Gaynor. He was elected to the supreme bench in 1920 and was reelected in 1924 for a term of six years starting January 1, 1925. He was a republican. The decedent is survived by two sons, John W. Arthur of Chicago, and Theron E. Arthur of Logan. High In Masonry Judge Arthur was high in the Free Masonry of Iowa, serving as grand master of the state grand lodge in 1916 and 1917. He was also a member of Za-Ga-Zig temple of the Shrine of Des Moines and belonged to the Elks Lodge at Council Bluffs. Interment will be at Logan, which was his home during the main part of his life. Funeral arrangements have not been completed due to the great distance at which some of his relatives live. Chief Justice F. F. Faville is in Maine and Judge Vermillion somewhere in New England where attempts are being made to locate them.
