Read More	THOMAS POWELL PASSES AT HOME Former Magistrate of Oneal Township And Prominent Farmer Succumbs Taylors, June 18 -- Thomas B. Powell, 83, well known resident and farmer of the Double Springs Baptist church community in O'Neal township, Taylors, route 2, died at his home Sunday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock after declining health for several months. He was seriously ill for only five days. Mr. Powell has made his home in this community all his life and was the son of the late William Powell and Frances Dill Powell. For eight years he was magistrate of O'Neal township. He was a devoted member of the Double Springs Baptist church for more than 60 years and served his church as singing master for a number of years. Mr. Powell was also a member of the Bailey Masonic lodge, No. 146, at Greer. When a young man he married Malissa G. Stewart, who died four years ago. Later he married Mrs. Mary Jane Carlton, who survives together with two children by the first marriage, Mrs. J.B. Page, Taylors, route 2; J.W. Powell, Taylors, route 1; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Double Springs Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. C.P. Chastain, assisted by the Rev. J.E. McJunkin and the Rev. Walter Harrison.Interment will follow in the family plot in the church cemetery. The following members of the Bailey Masonic lodge will meet at the home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock to serve as active pallbearers: J.F. Barton, E.G. Greer, E.E. Baswell, E.C. Bailey, B.M. Lanford, J.O. Burnett, C.L. Davis and R.G. Hyatt. Members of Bailey Masonic lodge and all visiting brethren have been asked to meet at the lodge hall in Greer, Monday afternoon promptly at 2 o'clock and go directly to church where the Masonic members will assemble as honorary escort and have charge of the services at the grave.
