For another year he was stationed at Versailles with British troops, and then served at Limerick, Ireland, where he married Elizabeth Hall in 1824. That year he entered the Colonial Office where his older brother George was clerk in the North American Department and soon after he was appointed commissioner of crown lands and surveyor general of New Brunswick and he came to Fredericton in 1824. His second marriage was in 1833 to Elizabeth Odell, daughter of William Franklin Odell. When he died in 1863, Baillie left two sons by his first marriage and three children by his second.
