Mr. Nelson had been in poor health for a number of years, and last Saturday had the misfortune to fall and broak his hip. The additional shock was more than he was able to withstand and he passed away Monday night. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church, with Rev. R. L. Brown conducting the service. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Cyril Rife, Mrs. Iva Storm, Earl Rife and C. J. Loehr, with Mrs. Earl Rife as accompanist. Pallbearers were Oral Crain, S. Hiler, George Wall, James Ramer, Clarence Tuttle, and George Westfall. Emmerita Harty and Elizabeth Hamilton were in charge of the flowers. Burial was in the River Junction cemetery. Thomas Bartley Nelson, son of Stewart and Mathilda Nelson was born near Conesville, Iowa, November 28, 1856 and died at his home in Lone Tree January 16, 1933 at the age of 76 years, one month and 19 days. February 9, 1882 he was married to Miss Mattie Magruder. For about 25 years the happy couple lived on the old Magruder farm north of River Junction. Twenty six years ago they moved to Lone Tree where they have since made their home. Nine years ago last October Mr. Nelson suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered. While he was not confined to his bed he was unable to care for himself. Never was one more tenderly and patiently cared for than was the deceased by his faithful companion. Saturday, January 14, he fell and broke his hip, and the shock was too much for his weakened body to overcome. Mr. Nelson was a faithful husband, a modest, kind and considerate neighbor. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mattie Nelson; two sisters, Mrs. H. H. Sheppard of River Junction and Mrs. Geo. Atkin of Lone Tree; two brothers, Frank Nelson of River Junction and Shannon Nelson of Warsaw, Ill.; and \|a number of nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Mrs. Jake Hines and Mrs. George Crocker, and one brother, Alonzo Nelson preceded him in death.
