Jan 10, 1933 - Carroll Daily Herald - Thomas Bedford, for many years a resident of Carroll county, died this morning at 9:45 o'clock at his home in Pleasant Valley at the age of 77. He had been ailing for several months but was taken ill Friday. Death was the result of heart trouble and a general break down. Funeral services will be held Thursday, afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church and will be conducted by the Rev. Claude R. Cook. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Thomas Bedford, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Bedford, was born Jan. 9, 1856 at Yorkshire, England and came with his parents to the United States. His father left the family in Illinois while he went on a prospecting tour through Missouri, Kansas and Iowa. Deciding to locate in Carroll county the father purchased 160 acres of wild land to which with the aid of his sons, he kept adding until he had accumulated more than 700 acres, all of which they cultivated. Since locating in Pleasant Valley in 1870 Thomas Bedford has inhabited the home farm. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth N. Jones April 27, 1888 at Shullsburg, Wis. She with the following children, survive: Mrs. Richard Bushman of Pleasant Valley, Mrs. Albert S. Nelson of Glidden and Charles William Bedford of Carroll. He also leaves four grandchildren. Mr. Bedford, was the last member of his family. Three brothers, the Rev. Charles Bedford, William, Alfred and a sister, Mrs. Joseph Annear preceded him in death. Mr. Bedford was a man of simple habits devoted to his occupation of farming. He was a devout member of the Methodist Episcopal church which he joined in his native land. He was a member of the church at Pleasant Valley until the church was discontinued and then transferred his membership to the Carroll church, where he was a faithful member.
