Thomas Brown Parker, the son of Reuben Darius Parker and Rachael Adeline Brown Parker, was born on August 25, 1870, in Genoa Bluffs, Iowa County, Iowa, and died on January 30, 1952 in Jefferson, Iowa. At an early age he moved with his parents to Lawler, Iowa. When he was ten, his parents took the family of four daughters and two sons by covered wagon to Nuckolls County, Nebraska, where the family homesteaded. One son had died in infancy. Mr. Parker attended grade school in Iowa and Nebraska and then worked as a cowboy for some time. He went into the state of Okla. When the state was opened for settlers, but at 19 was too young to establish a claim so he sold out and traveled through the West. At 20 he began farming for himself at Kirksville, Missouri. In 1896 he moved to Coon Rapids, Iowa where he engaged in farming. On February 17, 1902 he was united in marriage to Martha Jane Whitmore in Ralston, Iowa. Upon the establishment of their home Mr. and Mrs. Parker farmed in the vicinity of Scranton until their retirement to Jefferson in 1940. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Parker: Ralph A., Roy E., Cora A., Lloyd B., Charlie C., Ester A., Mae B., Alice B., and Clara A., who died in infancy. He is survived by his eight sons and daughters, Ralph of Eldora; Roy of Dexter; Mrs. Cora Oakes of Jefferson; Lloyd of Churdan; Charlie of Lehigh; Mrs. Ester Brinker and Mrs. Alice Cook of Waterloo; and Mrs. Mae Jensen of Redfield; by 28 grandchildren; one sister in law; three brothers in law; and many friends.
