Other names here are (on the outside of the fence): Thomas Lipscomb, married Elizabeth Waller, May 22, 1806, died February 21, 1728 (should be Feb 21, 1828) , aged 38 years 7 months and 19 days. Caught cold at a land sale and died in a week of pneumonia. Widow married H Gaines. This Gaines died in Florida. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Evening Index (Greenwood, SC) Thursday, 28 August 1913 Thomas married Elizabeth Waller, daughter of Leonard Waller. He lived in a house on the country road connecting the public road to Cambridge and the road branching off from it at Scotch Cross. Years ago, the house was moved by his grandson, Thomas Lipscomb Brooks to the public road leading to Ninety Six. Children of Thomas and Elizabeth Lipscomb (who were married Mar 22, 1806) 1) Taphenas who married Stanmore Butler Brooks 2) Benjamin married and went to Florida where he died 3) Elizabeth Agnes first wife of Major Peter McKellar married June 3, 1836 4) Thomas Lipscomb, Jr married Sarah Marshall, daughter of Capt George Marshall, sister of Dr Joseph Marshall 5) Leonard Lipscomb married Emma Brooks, daughter of Capt John Wesley Brooks, who built Scotch Cross House, by his 2nd wife, who was Melissa Duncan 6) Mary, daughter of Thomas Lipscomb Sr married 1st Reuben Hutchison on May 9 1831. Had one son, Columbus who went to California to hunt gold. Was captured and killed by Mexicans. She afterwards married Martin Hackett on Dec 1, 1841. Had 3 children: one of whom died early and the other two one was killed in the war and Julia who married Dr McSwain After the death of Mr Thomas Lipscomb Sr, his widow married Hiram Gaines, a musician, April 3, 1828. They had one son, William, died without issue. Hiram Gaines was a widower when he married Mrs Lipscomb, having first married a Waller. Their children all died young. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Index-Journal (Greenwood, SC) Sunday 5, Oct 1941 After the death of Thomas Lipscomb, his widow, Elizabeth Waller Lipscomb married 2nd Hiram W Gaines, a Music Teacher, and they had one son, William H Gaines, born in 1828 and died single in 1854, buried in the Lipscomb Burying Ground. Hiram W Gaines was a widower when he married Mrs Thomas Lipscomb. Hiram Gaines was born Oct 13, 1791 and his 1st wife, Huldah Gaines, was born Jan 18, 1797. Hiram Gains and his wife had the following children: Elizabeth T, Statira, Margaret Ann and David; and William W Gaines. The last one was born Dec 29, 1828. Hiram W Gaines removed to Florida and died there.
