Thomas was born on May 13, 1930 in Mapleton Township to parents Thomas and Bertha (Aasen) Aspaas. He grew up near Renner and graduated from Brandon High School. Read More	Thomas Burdell Aspaas passed peacefully on March 12, 2021, in the comfort of his home in Surprise, AZ. He was 90. Thomas was born on May 13, 1930 in Mapleton Township to parents Thomas and Bertha (Aasen) Aspaas. He grew up near Renner and graduated from Brandon High School. Tommy worked 30 years for Wilson Trucking, later called All-American Transport, as the supervisor of the rate auditing department. He also co-owned and operated the Monarch Steakhouse in Renner, the Brandon Steakhouse, and The Roundup Bar in Crooks, SD. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, whom he married on November 26, 1975; daughter Rebecca; son Robert and his wife, Gina; and his pride and joy, 4 grandchildren; Rylan and Renner Wade, and Thomas and Ander Aspaas. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Olga (Aspaas) Nelson; and brothers Joseph and Ole. Tommy was a simple farm boy who grew to be a loving husband, an amazing father and grandfather ("Papa Tom"), and a charitable member of his community. He lived a wonderful and full life, and when it tried to give him lemons, he always made lemonade, and he never stopped sharing it with everyone he knew. He always made time for his family, from playing cards and watching soap operas with his love, to being an enthusiastic advocate and cheerleader for Becky and Robbie. He was passionate about baseball. Tommy started as a bat boy, later playing on his beloved hometown Renner team in the legion state championships, eventually earning him a tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals. As a fan, he gave endlessly to amateur and various youth baseball programs in South Dakota. Through his relentless fundraising efforts, he enabled hundreds of youth baseball players to play the game he loved. Being able to watch and cheer everyone on was his reward. The familiar honking of his car horn could always be heard. To meet him was to admire him, to know him was to love him. No formal services will be held, however we look forward to celebrating his life later this summer when we bring him "home" to Renner.
