Farrell, 77 years, 7 months and 18 days, prominent Catholic layman and retired Union Pacific railroad emloyee died Monday, September 23, 1968 at his home, 407 South 14th St. in Marysville, following a severe heart seizure. He had been a heart patient since July of 1967. The eldest son of the late John and Anna Farrell, he was born February 5, 1891 in Plattsburg, Mo. He moved to the farm his parents purchased near Irish Creek, 5 1/2 miles southeast of Frankfort, at the age of one year where he resided until early manhood. The father and younger children of the family moved to Home City but Mr. Farrell moved to Iowa where he was employed by a paving company during the summer months for two years operating the mixer where they paved the streets of Altoona and surrounding cities. In the late fall and winter months he was employed by wheat harvesting crews as threshing machine engineer and dairy herd owners for the two years in Minnesota. He then located to Marysille where he lived until his death., being employed by the Ford Motor company as a mechanic and for a time by the Laramie Flour mill before he began employment with the Union Pacific railroad in 1920 in the mechanical department at the local roundhouse. He was affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers. He retired August 13, 1960. He was married to Miss Anna E. Cain of Beattie, June 3, 1921 at St. Malachy's church, Beattie with the Rev. Father Wm. Nellingan, celebrant of the nuptual mass. At that time they purchased the home where they lived until his death. He is survived by his widow of the home; a son, John T.; one granddaughter, Mary Teresanne Farrell; one grandson, John T. Farrell, jr. of Chicago, Ill., and two sisters, Mrs. Marguerite Maldoon, city, and Mrs. Ethel Bauman, Kansas City, Mo. and a large number of nieces and nephews. He was prededed in death by an infant daughter, Mary Frances, his parents, three brothers, John, James and Edward and two sisters, Annie Mitchell and Frances Farrell. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Marysville Council 1777, where he became an honorary member upon attaining the age of 75. He was also an active member of the Ponce de Leon Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus for many years. He was also a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers club, where he held life membership, during which time he and his wife attended the General Committee meetings held at Sun Valley, Idaho three years. Funeral services were held at St. Gregory's Catholic church Thursday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m. with a requiem high mass. Father Anthony Lickteig was the celebrant and Father Wm. Nelligan of Beattie was present in the sanctuary. Among the altar boys was a grandnephew, Greg Mitchell. Active pallbearers were George Moser, Mark Clark, Wm. Cain, John O'Neil, Edwin FitzGerald and Thomas Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were J. F Schulte, Frank Schulte, Frank Long, Herman Dwerlkotte, G. H. Berkley and George Stichterrath. Members of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Honor Guard were Lawrence Travelute, Leo Schmitz, Leo Noller, Ollie Kongs, Phil Huerter, August Uphaus, Charles Rombeck and Clarence Schroller. Parish rosary was recited Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at Kinsley's chapel followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary at 8:30 p.m. Burial was in St. Gregory's cemetery.
