Mr. Smith was born October 12, 1927, the oldest of five children of Thomas Coke Smith, Sr. and Annie Ree Morgan Smith. Read More	Married Rachel Louise Sellers on Aug. 4, 1955 per headstone. Thomas Coke Smith, Jr. passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, in his home with his family, after an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born October 12, 1927, the oldest of five children of Thomas Coke Smith, Sr. and Annie Ree Morgan Smith. His father died prematurely and he never forgot his mother's unceasing struggles to provide for her children through the Great Depression. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Mullins High School, where he was an outstanding athlete. He served his country in the US Army and for many years in the S.C. National Guard. He received many recognitions for his community service, which included two terms on the Mullins City Council and chairmanship of the Mullins Housing Authority. He served as a Deacon in the Mullins Presbyterian Church. Mr. Smith was best known for his operation of Smith Construction Company and is remembered fondly by many people that he helped obtain decent and dignified housing for their families. He also established the Mullins Hardware Company of Mullins, where his family still serves the community. Mr. Smith celebrated 54 years of marriage to his wife Rachel, before her death in 2009. He is survived by his son, Stephen Sellers Smith and wife Elaine; his daughter, Alta Louise Smith DuBose and husband David; and his grandchildren, Thomas Smith DuBose, Davis Marie DuBose and Julian Samuel Smith. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Smith Willis and her husband Henry of Greenwood and was predeceased by his brothers, George, Francis and Charles. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 4, in the sanctuary of Mullins Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jason Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the burial at the DuBose Home at 333 Powhatan Place. The family requests Mr. Smith be remembered by memorial gifts to the Mullins Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 671, Mullins, S.C. 29574 or to your preferred charity ministering to those in need
