They were the parents of Adam, Mary, Thoms, Robert, Margaret and Eliza Bell Elliott. ___________________________ The Piedmont Herald, Sept 3, 1897- - Thomas Bell Elliott, of Westernport, one of the oldest residents of the town, and a man well known and much respected by the community, died at his home on Main Street Wednesday morning, Sept 1st. Mr. Elliot was 64 years of age having been born in Durham, England, coming to this country about 1850 and locating with his father at what is now Vale Summit. Allegany Co. Md., then called Pompey Smash. Mr Elliott when only about 13 years of age and while in the old country, had charge of a stationary engine and began then the successful career he afterwards led as a locomotive engineer. When about 18 years of age, he came to his community entering the employ of the B&O, first as a fireman but soon taking charge of an engine and for 25 years was regarded as one of the most trustworthy engineers in the service of the company. For more than 18 years past, Mr. Elliott has been an invalid, confined to the house all that time. His illness was the result of an explosion on the engine, the furnace door striking him in the back and producing spinal trouble, the outer covering of his spine entirely destroyed in places. Notwithstanding this terrible affliction, and the consequent inability to move about Mr Elliott was exceedlingly cheerful and contented, relying on his religious faith for consolation which never failed him, and made of him a wonderful example of fortitude and trustfulness. The deceased was married to Miss Margaret Campbell some 43 years ago who survives him as do the following children: Adam Elliott, Mrs Mary J. Piper, and Miss Lizzie Elliott of Westernport; Mrs Margaret Fields of Baltimore; Thomas Elliott of Keyser; and Robert Elliott of Cumberland. Mr Elliott, the deceased, was a member of the M. E. Church, Piedmont for nearly 30 years. He was a member of Hiram Lodge of Free Masons of Westernport and of Philos Lodge I.O.O.F. The funeral services and interment in Philos Cemetery took place Thursday. (Thank you to John Fazenbaker for providing the obituary)
