Thomas Ellis Aaker was born on July 10, 1946 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Harlan and Connie (Maristuen) Aaker. He attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. He went on to receive an Associate’s Degree from NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND. Tommy entered the United States Army May 10, 1966 and served his country during the Vietnam War. Thomas Ellis Aaker was born on July 10, 1946 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Harlan and Connie (Maristuen) Aaker. He attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. He went on to receive an Associate’s Degree from NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND. Tommy entered the United States Army May 10, 1966 and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was awarded several medals: including the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Sharpshooter (rifle), Vietnam Service Star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged from military service on May 9, 1968. He was very proud to be a Vietnam veteran. Tommy married Paulette Bucholz in 1969 and they were blessed with two children, Shawn Thomas and Shosti Leigh. Next to his family and friends, music was his passion. He started playing in bands at age 13. During his music career, he played in several bands including The Charms, The Wanderers, The Country Gentlemen, The Tommy Aaker Band and Good Timin’ Friends. He also went on to write and record his own music in Nashville, TN. He made many lifelong friendships because of his music. Tommy is survived by his beloved wife, Paulette; two children, Shawn Aaker and Shosti Aaker, both of Grand Forks, ND and six grandchildren, Chantz Halverson, Blaiz Halverson, Skye Halverson and Jerzee Aaker all of Grand Forks, ND; Delaney Aaker and Seth Aaker of East Grand Forks, MN; a brother, Lanny Aaker and a sister, Conni (Harold) Wolfe, both of Grand Forks, ND; several cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leroy Aaker and Jon Aaker and twin granddaughters. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 in Bethel Lutheran Church, 1616 South 17th Street Grand Forks, ND 58201. Family Greeting: One hour prior to the service in the church on Saturday. Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND. Celebration of Life and Happy Hour: Will follow the interment at the K.C. Club, 601 University Ave., Grand Forks, ND Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard
