He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Gibbs of Indiana, who came west in early pioneer days and settled near Bonaparte where Mr. Gibbs has resided the greater part of his life. He was twice married. To the first union were born five children, two daughters and three sons, Charles A. of Galesburg, Ill.; John H., and George Al, of Ottumwa, Iowa; Mrs. George Ricker of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Herman Bremhorst of Ottumwa, Iowa. To the second union were also born five children, four daughters and one son, Samuel of Odebolt, Iowa; Mrs. Roy Parker of Acasta, Mo., Mrs. Clarence Holmes, of Bona parte, Iowa; Sadie, whose home is in Illinois and Margaret at home. Mr. Gibbs leaves also one brother, Daniel, of Luray, Mo. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the Baptist church, with Rev. Peterson officiating and interment was made in the Houlsworth cemetery north of town.
