D. I. Coon, of this city. Interment was in Elm Grove cemetery. Thomas Franklin Gideon was born March 4, 1841, in Blount county, Tenn., and was a son of Wayne Gideon and Mary Jane Hitch. He was one of a family of seven children, four of whom are still living: John, Hugh, and Stephen Gideon of Tennessee, and J. H. Gideon of Winfield. Mr. Gideon was married in Tennessee in 1861 to Martha Goodlink, who died in Tennessee December 1, 1866. Mr. Gideon was again married in 1870, to Sarah Caldwell. Four children were born to them, two sons and two daughters, all of whom are living. They are: Wayne Gideon, of Jackson township; Mrs. Jennie Arbogast of Brighton township; J.H. Gideon, of Huron, S.D., and Mrs. Edna Scheopfer, of Marion township. The Gideon family came to Iowa in 1883, locating near Crawfordsville. Later they moved to Jackson township where Mrs. Gideon died on June 9, 1898. Besides the four children, Mr. Gideon is survived by eight grandchildren. However the 1860 census shows them as the parents of eight children, namely- William, Martha A, John B, Thomas F, James H, Hugh C, Stephen K, and Richard Elias.
