Thomas Franklin Hitchens, son of Joseph W. and Mary Jane Hitchens, was born March 13, 1856 near Loganport, Indiana, and passed on at his home in Burlington, Thursday afternoon December 1, 1921 at 4:30, at the age of 65 years 8 months and 18 days. He was the eldest of five children, the other four having died in early childhood. His mother passed on when he was about 6 years of age. His father was remarried in 1863 and he with his parents came to Coffey county, Kansas where he grew to manhood. In 1878 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Mattox near Ottumwa, Kansas. To this union were born eight children, Mrs Myrtle Bartlett, Benjamin F. and Ernest W. Hitchens of Burlington, Jesse S. Hitchens, of Hedrick, Iowa, Mrs Maude Todd andd Mrs Iva Todd of Gridley, John A. Hitchens of Waverley and Hazel, who is at home. Mr Hitchens was a good citizen kind and loving to his family, always considerate of others. He has been sick for nearly a year in which time he was patient until the last. He is survived by his wife, eight children , twenty six grand children, two great grand children, four half sisters and two half brothers. His stepmother prreceded him to the great beyond just a few days. END COMES THURSDAY TO T. F. HITCHENS: T. F. Hitchens died at his home on St. Lawrence street, Thursday at 4:30. He had been sick for nealry a year. Mr Hitchens was 65 years old. Before moving to Burlington he lived on a farm near Burlington. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the home. Mr Hitchens is a stepson of Mrs Martha Ann Hitchens who died Monday November 28.
