Description	:	Beloved husband, son, brother and uncle, Thomas Gail Backus passed away peacefully on September 28, 2012 at the age of 90. Tom was born on December 14, 1921 in Alta, Wyoming. Born to Camilla Dalley and Delbert F. Backus, he grew up with 3 brothers and 3 sisters, all whom preceded him in death. He also lost the love of his life, wife Renee Sebold, on January 14, 2011. Read More	Beloved husband, son, brother and uncle, Thomas Gail Backus passed away peacefully on September 28, 2012 at the age of 90. Tom was born on December 14, 1921 in Alta, Wyoming. Born to Camilla Dalley and Delbert F. Backus, he grew up with 3 brothers and 3 sisters, all whom preceded him in death. He also lost the love of his life, wife Renee Sebold, on January 14, 2011. Tom served as a member of the Signal Corps in the US 5th Army in World War II from 9-30-42 to 12-10-45. Fighting alongside Allied forces and Vichy officers from French North Africa, the US 5th Army invaded mainland Italy, securing first the south then pushing north to defeat the Germans. After the war Tom worked for the USGS and then for the U.S. Postal Service post office for 30 years. "Uncle Tom," as he was fondly called by those who loved him, is survived by 39 nieces and nephews, and all of their children. He was a gentle soul, living a life worthy of God's praise "Well done my good and faithful servant." You were our Uncle, but we loved you like a father. We will miss your unconditional love, selfless nature, guidance, integrity and zest for life. Join the celebration of Tom's life on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 1:30pm in the Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Cemetery, followed by a reception in Windsor Gardens.
