Description	:	The Marion Sentinel Thursday March 11, 1937 Tommy Shay, 13, Died Tuesday After Extended Illness Thomas Gene Shay, a lad of thirteen years, died Tuesday at the University hospital at Iowa City, following a six weeks illness, during which he underwent several mastoid operations and blood transfusions in the effort to save his life. One brother, Richard, two years younger, survives. His parents, Thomas G. and Ferol Grommon Shay, were both victims of tuberculosis. LeRoy Grommon, grandfather, of Marion, and Mrs. Frances Swann, great-grandmother, of Cedar Rapids, also survive him. Thomas was a happy, likeable lad, well at the top in his school work in the eighth grade at Lincoln, and was proud of the fact that just before his illness he had been taken into Boy Scout ranks. A year ago he joined the Methodist church. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon from the Yocom chapel, with Rev. E.T. Gough, pastor of the M.E. church, officiating.
