Description	:	Killed by the Cars. Yesterday afternoon at the crossing a mile and a, half west of Maurice the east bound passenger train struck and almost instantly killed Thomas H. Walker, a well-known farmer of Reading township. The victim of the accident was hauling lumber from Maurice for a new house, and was going to town with the running gears of his wagon. Mr. Walker;... Read More	Killed by the Cars. Yesterday afternoon at the crossing a mile and a, half west of Maurice the east bound passenger train struck and almost instantly killed Thomas H. Walker, a well-known farmer of Reading township. The victim of the accident was hauling lumber from Maurice for a new house, and was going to town with the running gears of his wagon. The crossing where he met his death is a dangerous one, as the wagon road approaches the railroad track through a cut. The grade is quite heavy also and a train attains a great rate of speed. Mr. Walker; however, must have been lost in thought or the train must have been running very rapidly and quietly, since the section line and the railway run close to each other for half a mile west of the crossing. It is preamble that he was thinking deeply and was oblivious to the approach of the train until too late. At any rate, the engine struck the wagon and hurled it a considerable distance, killing one of the horses. The train was stopped as soon as possible and the injured man placed on board and taken to Maurice. He was still breathing when picked up, but died in a very few minutes. His skull was crushed and there were other severe injuries. The unfortunate man was about thirty-five years of age and leaves a widow and several children. He was in good circumstances, we understand. He was popular among those with whom he was acquainted and leaves many friends in the community in which he lived who sincerely regret his untimely death, and whose sympathy is heartily extended to those bereft so suddenly of husband and father. As nearly as we can learn no blame attaches to the railway officials. The particulars given above are in the main correct, and are as definite as we can learn them at this time.
