An active member of his community, he was known to his many friends as Tom. Thomas was born April 8, 1930 in Paterson, New Jersey, to Altha S. Bruguiere and Harold O. Bruguiere. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Emilie Dickie Bruguiere; brother, Robert Smith Bruguiere; sister, Jane Bruguiere Norton; four sons, Thomas Harold Bruguiere, Jr. and his wife, Sandra, and their children, Russell and Sarah, Robert Dickie Bruguiere and his wife, Debbie, and their children, Jeffrey and Jessie, Curtis Smith Bruguiere and his wife, Jodie, and their children, Colin and Tucker, and John Ervine Bruguiere and his wife, Shelby, and their children, Sallie, Michael, Kyle, and Alex. The family will receive friends at Breeze Hill, home of Thomas and Emilie Bruguiere, Friday, October 3, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m. A memorial service is planned for November 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Roseland Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 39, Roseland, VA 22967. Byrum-Parr Funeral Home is serving the family, 434-277-5194. (News-Advance, Nov. 21, 2014) ----------------------------------------------------------- Suggested edit: Dr. Dickie died suddenly on May 7, 1950, and his widow, Kate, following his wishes, returned to Wilmington, NC to live with her sister, Hattie. When she left the farm, she leased her land to her brother-in-law, Will Dickie, and his wife, Sallie. The house was leased separately to a local fam ily. Will and Sallie's daughter, Emilie Louise, and her husband, Captain Thomas H. Bruguiere, USAF, moved to "Breeze Hill" in 1958 at the end of Tom's military service and bought Herbert and Kate Dickie's farm, including the house, in 1961. They operated as partners with Will and Sallie Dickie, keeping the farm name of Dickie Brothers. At the "Breeze Hill Farm," Tom and Emilie raised their sons: Thomas Harold, Jr., Robert Dickie, Curtis Smith, and John Ervine. Tommy and John have followed the family interest in cattle and apple growing and assist in the operation of Dickie Brothers farm business. November of 1967 a fire broke out at "Breeze Hill" while the family was away and gained such intensity that it ruined the interior of the house, including a silver service for twelve and other precious family objects and memorabilia. While the outside shell of the house remained essentially intact, the Bruguiere's remodeled the inside, starting with a modern kitchen, adding more and larger closets and a bath off the master bedroom, and removing French doors that once had been used to close off the main downstairs rooms. To face the raised fireplace in the family room, brick was brought over from the ruins of "Castle Hall"; another Dickie house built in 1832 and burned to the ground in 1898.
