Description	:	Son of Thomas Day and Almira Day, both of Maine. Pioneer and builder of San Francisco, left his native state of Maine in 1850, making the voyage around the Horn. He married Helen M. Waite 20 June 1867, at Grass Valley, Nevada County, California. He entered into the contracting business, building the old Pioneer Hall on fourth street, the northwest wing on City Hall, the state deaf and dumb asylum at Berkeley, part of the insane asylum at Stockton, the Maria Kip Orphanage, the James Lick School and many others. His family residence was at 1012 Devisadero, San Francisco, with a country farm on the Russian River. His wife and he had five sons and two daughters all living in San Francisco. Survived by his widow Helen M. (Waite) Day; five sons, Henry L., Charles A., Frederick L., Phil A., and Roscoe E.; two daughters, Mrs. T. S. Hall, and Mrs. R. A. Day; and his brother, Rev.
