The service was in charge of the Rev. Ben Sims, Fillmore, California, who was assisted by Rev. Willard L. Bright, pastor of the Versailles Baptist church. Thomas J. Sims was the youngest son of the late Charles W. and Louisa Sims, and was born October 28, 1870, on a farm about 12 miles north of Versailles in Morgan county. He was educated in the schools of the county, and with the exception of a few years in California and Colorado, he spent his entire life in this community. In January, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Jessie Clifton, daughter of the late Zach Clifton. To them were born four sons and two daughters, one son and one daughter having preceded him in death. The surviving children are: Monte of Adair, Iowa; Mrs. Wayne Harlan, Kansas City, Mo.; Lee T. of Versailles and Gilbert of Independence, Mo. In March of last year, Mrs. Sims died. Besides his children, he is survived by one brother, "Uncle Bud" Sims of Versailles, and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Cooper of Long Beach, Calif. Burial was in Freedom cemetery."
