He was born March 11, 1954 in Scottsbluff. He grew up and attended school in Gering where he graduated from high school in 1972. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1977 and from the Colorado School of Banking in Boulder. He married Kristine Schell, Sept. 30, 1977 in Omaha. They lived in Scottsbluff where he worked as a commodity and stock broker for Peavey Co. In 1978, they moved to Torrington where he was employed at Citizens National Bank. He was named president of the bank in 1981 and served on its' board of directors. He was a member of the church and the Torrington Rotary Club and was past president of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at NU and had served on the Torrington city council.
