Description	:	Winifred —On September 7, 2016 our loving father, grandfather, husband and friend Thomas James DeMars passed away peacefully at the CMMC Hospice House in Lewistown, MT after a long battle with cancer. Tom was born to Albert Joseph and Elsie (Mengler) DeMars. He was born November 28, 1930 in his Grandma Mengler's homestead cabin west of Coffee Creek, MT. Tom was born to Albert Joseph and Elsie (Mengler) DeMars. He was born November 28, 1930 in his Grandma Mengler's homestead cabin west of Coffee Creek, MT. He attended grade school in Coffee Creek, graduated from Denton High School in 1948 and then studied Ag Economics at MSU Bozeman. After a yearlong courtship, Tom was united in marriage to Jacqueline Fay Quick on October 2, 1951 at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Denton, MT In 1952, Tom and Jackie moved to a ranch east of Lewistown and then went into the sheep business on Sage Creek south of Windham. In 1963 the family moved to Winifred and established the DeMars Ranch, where Jackie and family will continue to run Tom's beautiful Black Angus herd. Most people will remember Tom by the horses he rode and the cattle he raised. His family, cattle and horses were his passion. Tom was involved in numerous organizations. He was a member of the Winifred School Board and was instrumental in getting a Vo-Ag program in the school along with getting the shop built, was a County Range Director and organizer of the first Fergus County Range Days, founding leader of the Winifred Mustang Horse Club, Member of RCALF, Stockgrowers Association, Fergus County Livestock Association, and the Catholic Church. In 2015 Tom was awarded the Northern Livestock Pioneer Producer of the Year Award. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, one niece and one nephew. Tom is survived by his wife; one daughter; five sons; nineteen grandchildren; along with eighteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters and one brother.
