MAIN After being found alone in his apartments at 229 West Main street by Patrolmen Frank Harris and Arnold Murray and Watchman Ed Johnson, Thomas Sellers, aged 70 years, a familiar figure on West Main street, died suddenly this morning before medical aid could reach him. Death came at 4:30 o'clock. The man's condition was first discovered by Mr. Johnson, who is watchman at the plant of the Ottumwa Mill & Construction Co., and who upon hearing groans called Patrolman Arnold Murray, of the Union depot beat. When they reached Sellers' place on Main street they saw the man standing at the end of the counter in the room, where he conducted a small restaurant in the place. Officer Harris also arrived on the scene. Both doors were locked and despite the knocking of the officers the man did not seem to hear and did not open the door. They forced entrance from the rear and when they reached the aged man's side they found that he was unconscious and dying. Dr. A. O. Williams was summoned, but before he arrived, the. spark of life had gone. The body was removed to the Sullivan undertaking parlor. Inquest Is Held. To ascertain the cause of Sellers' death, Dr. A. O. Williams conducted post-mortem this morning under the direction of Coroner A. W. Slaught. The heart showed that death had resulted from organic heart trouble. The fact that Mr. Sellers was in the room by himself at the time excited some suspicion so Coroner A. W. Slaught conducted an inquest over the remains. C. C. Ayers, H. W. Wagner and L. W. Darner were the jurors. Dr. Williams, Officer Harris and Watchman Johnson were examined. After summing up the evidence, they returned a verdict that death had been caused by organic heart trouble. Was Early Settler. A The deceased was one of the early settlers of Wapello county. For a number of years he had conducted a little store on West Main street, where he served lunches, sold tobacco and other articles. He also dealt in real estate, devoting most of his time to the latter. He was well known over the county. He is survived by three sons, Edward Sellers, residing six miles north of the city, George Sellers of Pipestone, Minn., and Frank Sellers of Council Bluffs. The funeral of Thomas Sellers will held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock from the residence of his son Edward Sellers, six miles north of Ottumwa. Rev. Mr. Decker of Kirkville conduct the services.
