Roberts was lying dangerously ill there, caused by a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Roberts and C.M. Logan immediately took their departure and were at his bedside as soon as possible, but found him beyond relief and the old gentleman departed this life at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday. As far as we are able to learn, the circumstances are about as follows: He was in his buggy and had driven only a short way out of the town when he came to a fork in the load, and being puzzled as to which direction to go, alighted and impaired the way from a young lady at a farm house near by. A short time afterward he was found by some passers by in an insensible condition near his carriage. He was conveyed back to the town and his identity discovered by means of a letter addressed to D.O. Hunt, of St. Helena. He never regained consciousness from the time he was found to his death. The attack was very sudden. Deceased was aged seventy-two years and a native of Tennessee. He wan en old resident here and universally esteemed for bin many good and noble qualities. A kind wife, five daughters and three sons are left to mourn his loss. We strongly sympathize with them in their affliction. The funeral took place from the family residence Thursday morning and was quite largely attended.
