Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. John Fischer officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with military graveside rites by Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791. Visitations will be from 4-9 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, with a 7 p.m. rosary followed by a 7:30 p.m. scripture service. Thomas John Prunty was born to Francis and Victoria (Schmidt) Prunty on January 1, 1926, in Andover, S.D. He married Betty Moses on August 18, 1952, in Yankton, S.D. He was a teacher and a coach for 4 years at Ramona, S.D. For 32 years he was a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent at Jasper, Minn. He received his Bachelors of Science from Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D. He continued his education with a Master's Degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., and receiving a Specialist Degree from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn. He belonged to the organizations of the Knights of Columbus, Minnesota Association of School Administrators, secretary for District 8 Minnesota State High School League, Jasper Ambulance and Rescue Squad, and a fireman for 15 years in Jasper. He was a member of the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791, American Legion Post No. 12, Golden K, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Jasper, Minn., Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, S.D., and Honorary Chapter Farmer for FHA. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Betty, Yankton, S.D.; three sons: Michael (Janice), Willmar, Minn., Steven (Sue) New Ulm, Minn., and Matthew (Nancy), Welcome, Minn.; two daughters: Patricia (Greg) Thompson, Ortonville, Minn., and Jeanne (Ken) Heitzman, Willmar, Minn.; three brothers: Clarence, Bill, and Eugene Prunty; nine sisters Evelyn Overas, Sr. Patricia Prunty, Marge Wing, Tess Evers, Ruth Prunty, Betty Ann Grode, Dorothy Meier, Marion Grode, and Cele Heinen; 11 grandchildren: Nathan Thompson, Natasha Thompson, Marjorie Prunty, Thomas Prunty, Elizabeth Prunty, Kirsten Prunty, Katie Prunty, Kelly Prunty, Maggie Prunty, Matthew Heitzman, and Michael Heitzman.
