The grandson of Irish immigrants and the son of Frank M. Carraher and Anna (Carey) Carraher. He attended rural elementary school and graduated from St John's High School, Petersburg in 1936. Read More	************************************* Tom Carraher, 90 of Lincoln, NE was born January 24, 1920 on a farm west of Petersburg, NE. The grandson of Irish immigrants and the son of Frank M. Carraher and Anna (Carey) Carraher. He attended rural elementary school and graduated from St John's High School, Petersburg in 1936. He enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937 to 1938. During World War II, he served in the Army. He worked as a printer for the Petersburg Index and for a short time was co-editor of the Elgin Review. He graduated from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha in 1950. On June 19, 1945 he married Celestine Herrmann at St Peter's Catholic Church in Omaha, NE. They moved to Petersburg in 1950 and owned and operated the Petersburg Press while he was engaged in a part-time law practice. In 1969 the family moved to Norfolk, Ne where he took an administrative position with Northeast Nebraska College – now Northeast Community College. He retired in 1987. After retirement, he continued as an instructor of college courses in languages, history and law. In 1997, he began serving with the adjunct faculty for Wayne State College, teaching philosophy until 1998. He was a member of Sacred Heart –St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norfolk, NE and served as editor of the Parish Profile for several years. He was a longtime member of the American Legion. During his employment with Northeast Community College, he was active in both state and national education accreditation and in 1971 was awarded a certificate of leadership by the Adult Education Association of the United States for his work toward national legislation for veterans' educational benefits. One of his avocations was writing and he had several articles and a number of poems published. He was preceded in death by his wife Celestine and his parents, five sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his Daughter & Son-in-law Mary Beth and Del Lienemann Jr. Son & Daughter-in-law Jim and Sue Carraher and his Son Pat Carraher all of Lincoln, NE.
